If You Can Help Someone

Homelessness in Nunavut poses unique challenges. Perhaps the most obvious of those challenges is the long, cold winter. But the less obvious challenges are even more pervasive: the many aspects of colonization that continue to echo across the territory. Efforts to decolonize are well underway, led by Inuit in every sphere of Nunavut life. Uquutaq’s clients, however, face both immediate challenges, like access to shelter, food, clothing and wellness services, in addition to the severing of cultural and familial ties all-too-familiar with post-colonial societies. That’s why our work depends heavily on the work of other organizations . And that’s also why your help is crucial.

Please consider donating

Your donation can help Uquutaq do its part to address these gross inequalities. Your donations go directly to providing benefits to individuals in need including more beds and shelters, more services, more housing and more food and other basic necessities such as bedding, winter clothing and toiletries. Your donations will help more Inuit gain the dignity of independence that every Canadian deserves.

Work with us

The Uquutaq Society is often looking inside and outside of Iqaluit for talented, driven and compassionate people to fill roles. For those hired from outside the territory into positions based in Iqaluit, Uquutaq can offer relocation costs and accommodations. However we are often looking for specialized expertise that can support us from outside the territory. For the most recent job posting, please refer to our Facebook page here

Our hardworking Board of Directors is comprised entirely of volunteers, as are a number of committees, like the fundraising committee. To find out about current volunteer needs, please contact info@uquutaq.org.
